Prophy Jets

Air polishing systems remove plaque, stain and biofilm faster and more comfortably than polishing paste alone. A controlled jet of air, water and fine powder cleans supragingival surfaces and, with the right powder, reaches around orthodontic brackets, into developmental grooves and around implant abutments where a rubber cup cannot. The range covers benchtop and handheld units, handpiece-mounted options, prophylaxis powders and the brushes and pastes used to finish.

Choosing a unit. Benchtop units suit a dedicated hygiene room and hold larger powder reservoirs. Handheld polishers are easier to move between operatories and quicker to set up for a single patient. Handpiece-mounted options run off the existing coupling, which avoids adding another device to the bracket table.

Powder choice. This matters more than the unit itself. Coarser sodium bicarbonate powders are intended for supragingival stain removal, while finer powders are formulated for use below the gingival margin and around implants, where an abrasive powder would damage the titanium surface or the soft tissue.

Clinical use. Routine recall and hygiene appointments, cleaning enamel before bonding brackets or placing fissure sealants, and peri-implant maintenance where biofilm has to be disrupted without scoring the abutment.

Care and maintenance. Flush the lines and clear the nozzle after every session. Blocked nozzles are the most common reason a unit underperforms, and they are almost always caused by damp powder left sitting in the chamber.
