Digital sensors show the image in seconds and need a lower dose than film. A positioning system holds the sensor parallel to the tooth, which gives repeatable, undistorted images that can be compared over time.

Cover sensors with a disposable sleeve for every patient, since most sensors cannot be sterilized. A scatter shield on handheld units adds protection for the operator.
