Introduction:
Embark on a journey into the world of dental restoration with dip's Healing Abutments—a crucial component in the dental implant process. In this comprehensive guide, we delve into the significance of healing abutments, the materials we use, and the exceptional choices we offer to dental professionals for achieving optimal soft tissue healing and regeneration.

The Dual Role of Healing Abutments
Healing abutments play a pivotal role in the dental restoration journey. Firstly, they facilitate the healing of peri-implant soft and hard tissues during the crucial healing phase, which includes the initiation of soft-tissue contouring. Secondly, they act as guardians of the implant site during the initial post-surgical healing stage, preventing the accumulation of plaque or debris. Given their close proximity to newly placed implants and their interaction with the healing site, it is imperative that they are constructed from high-strength, lightweight, biointeractive, and biocompatible materials.

Materials That Promote Healing
At dip, we offer healing abutments and healing caps crafted from two exceptional materials: high-grade polished titanium (Ti-6Al-4V ELI) and PEEK (Polyether ether ketone). Both materials possess the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties ideal for the post-surgical healing phase.

Variety to Accommodate Every Scenario
Our healing abutments are available in a diverse range of connections, diameters, and heights, catering to various restoration scenarios. In today's vast implant systems market, dip stands out by designing and manufacturing healing abutments and healing caps compatible with most popular implant system brands. These include well-known names such as Implant-Direct®, Straumann®, Biohorizon®, MegaGen®, Nobel Active®, Osstem® / Hiossen®, Zimmer®, and Dentium®.

Healing Abutment and Healing Cap Formats
Our standard implant healing abutments are crafted from high-grade titanium and come in two heights: 3.0 mm and 5.0 mm. They also offer four diameter options: 3.8 mm, 4.5 mm, 5.5 mm, and 6.3 mm. Furthermore, we offer a 4.5 mm-diameter concave abutment in both heights—an ideal solution for cases where emergence profile shaping and primary stability are of utmost importance.
For multi-unit systems, our titanium healing abutments feature a permanently-fixed internal screw. This design minimizes the risk of losing the screw during procedures.
PEEK healing caps are perfectly suited for use with dip's Transfer-Abutment concept—a system that unites three dental restoration components into a single transfer abutment. These PEEK healing caps are temporarily cemented post-impression until the final prosthesis placement. They come in three height options: 4.0 mm, 6.0 mm, and 8.0 mm, all with a diameter of 5.5 mm.

The Choice of Materials: Titanium and PEEK
While dip also offers zirconia abutments, our focus for the healing phase centers on titanium and PEEK materials due to their exceptional physicochemical and mechanical properties.

Titanium:
Titanium's remarkable qualities, initially harnessed by the aerospace industry in the 1950s, later found their way into dental implantology. Titanium is celebrated for its lightweight nature, high strength-to-weight ratio, and resistance to corrosion. These characteristics make it particularly advantageous in direct-loading scenarios within the oral environment, exposed to various corrosion pathways. Titanium's biocompatibility and biointeractivity make it an ideal choice for implant material, ensuring long-term success in the oral environment.

PEEK:
Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) has gained recognition in dental implantology for its properties similar to titanium. Despite not being a metal, PEEK is a high-performance, medical-grade plastic with a complex semi-crystalline structure, resulting in durability, stiffness, and remarkable strength. PEEK shares characteristics with titanium such as biointeractivity, biocompatibility, resistance to corrosion, high temperatures, and chemicals. Its natural, tooth-like color is advantageous for restorations where aesthetics matter. Additionally, PEEK exhibits reduced biofilm accumulation compared to titanium, can be cleaned and sterilized with in-house dental equipment, and is suitable for various implant restoration scenarios. Researchers are continually working on improving PEEK's surface to match titanium's performance in terms of biocompatibility, proliferation, cell adhesion, and cold welding.
