Dental Cements

Dental cements for luting crowns, bridges, inlays, posts and orthodontic bands, in resin, glass ionomer and zinc oxide eugenol chemistries. The right cement depends on the restoration material, the retention of the preparation, and whether the restoration is permanent or provisional.

Self-adhesive resin cements give high bond strength with a simple technique and suit most ceramic and zirconia restorations. Glass ionomer cements release fluoride and tolerate some moisture, which makes them useful for metal ceramic crowns and bands. Zinc oxide eugenol and non-eugenol cements are used for temporary work.

Remove excess cement carefully, especially around implant restorations, where residue below the gum line can lead to inflammation.
