Cements and Liners

Dental cements and liners for restorative and prosthetic work, covering permanent luting, temporary cementation, implant restorations, protective bases and desensitizing. Cement choice follows the restoration and the preparation: retention form, the material being cemented and whether the restoration may need to come off again all point to a different chemistry.

Permanent luting. Self-adhesive resin cements for crowns, bridges, inlays and posts where bond strength matters, and glass ionomer and resin-modified glass ionomer cements where fluoride release and a forgiving technique are more useful than maximum bond strength.

Temporary cementation. Eugenol and non-eugenol formulations for provisionals. Use non-eugenol whenever a resin cement or bonding agent will follow, because eugenol residue interferes with resin polymerization.

Implant cements. Formulated for cement retained implant restorations, where excess cement below the tissue is a known cause of peri-implant problems and clean-up is part of the technique rather than an afterthought.

Bases and liners. Calcium hydroxide and glass ionomer liners for insulating the pulp under deep restorations, and cavity varnishes and conditioners for surface preparation.

Desensitizers. For exposed dentin after preparation, scaling or whitening.
