Stripping et IPR

Interproximal reduction systems for creating space in the arch without extracting. Controlled stripping removes a measured thickness of enamel between teeth, which is often enough to resolve mild crowding, refine contacts after alignment, or make room for a final detailing stage. The whole technique depends on removing a known amount rather than an estimated one.

Strips. Single and double sided abrasive strips in graded thicknesses and grits, usually color coded so the amount being removed is obvious at a glance. Start with the finest that will do the job.

Handpiece systems. Contra-angle IPR kits with oscillating segmental discs, which are faster and more controlled than hand strips through tight contacts, particularly in the posterior segments.

Diamond burs and discs. Slenderization burs for anterior reduction where access allows a rotary approach.

Measuring. Gauges for checking how much space has actually been created, so reduction stops at the planned figure instead of continuing by feel.

Finishing. Polish the stripped surface afterwards. A roughened interproximal surface accumulates plaque and is more prone to decalcification than intact enamel.
