What is the Zest Locator® attachment system?

The Zest Locator® is the world's most widely used implant overdenture attachment system. It consists of a titanium attachment placed on the implant and a nylon retention insert (male) housed in the denture base. The low-profile design (only 3.17mm height) and self-aligning angle correction (up to 40° between two implants) make it the gold standard for implant-retained removable overdentures.

What retention insert colors and strengths are available?

Locator® compatible retention inserts are available in multiple retention strengths: Blue (light, ~1.5 lbs), Pink (medium, ~3 lbs), Clear (extra light, for tight cases), and Red (heavy, ~5 lbs). The color-coded system allows clinicians to customize retention force based on patient dexterity, denture design, and the number of implants. Retention inserts can be replaced chairside without replacing the attachment.

What is the difference between Locator® and Locator R-Tx®?

The original Locator® uses a two-part system with a metal housing and replaceable nylon insert. Locator R-Tx® is an updated design with a threaded titanium cap for easier chairside insert replacement without special tools. DIP Dental offers compatible components for both systems, making it easy to maintain existing patient cases regardless of which version was originally placed.

When should I use Locator® attachments instead of ball attachments?

Locator® attachments are preferred when: implants are not perfectly parallel (up to 40° combined divergence), patient dexterity is a concern (easier insertion/removal), lower profile is required, or when long-term maintenance simplicity is a priority. Ball attachments may be preferred in single-implant cases or when maximum retention force is needed with a simpler component design.
